En mi laboratorio estamos interesados en la fisiología y fisiopatología renales.
Tenemos líneas de investigación que van desde el manejo renal de sal y la hipertensión arterial, así como en la obesidad e hipertensión y problemas clínicos como al insuficiencia renal aguda o los mecanismo de retención de sal en pacientes con edema.
Trabajamos con transportadores de sal en el riñón que son fundamentales para determinar la excreción urinaria de sal y por lo tanto, son críticos para definir el volumen circulante y la presión arterial. Las alteraciones en estos transportadores producen hiper o hipotensión arterial y bloquearlos con diuréticos es útil para el manejo de esta enfermedad. Estamos particularmente interesados en mecanismo de regulación.
Utilizamos múltiples técnicas que van desde la ingeniería genética hasta la investigación clínica.

En mi laboratorio han realizado tesis estudiantes de Doctorado (16), Maestría (6), Especialidad (5) y Licenciatura (12). Han realizado el Posdoctorado (7) y el Servicio Social de la carrera de Medicina (30).
He impartido ininterrumpidamente una vez al año el curso de Fisiología Cardiovascular, Pulmonar y Renal, modulo II de la materia de Fisiología Humana, del currículo del segundo año de la carrera de Medicina en la Facultad de Medicina, UNAM desde 1993 hasta 2022.
Asistimos regularmente al Congreso Anual de la Sociedad Americana de Nefrología en los Estados Unidos desde 1989, al Congreso Anual de la Sociedad Americana de Fisiología en los Estados Unidos, desde 2000 y al Congreso Anual del Instituto Mexicanos de Investigaciones Nefrológicas en México desde 1993. En estos congresos generalmente es donde presentamos nuestros trabajos de investigación.
